Southern Samity
Southern Samity established in the year 1945.[1] During that time apart from sports they are also involved in various cultural activities.
Southern Samity is second division club based out of kolkata.[2] They have financial backing from some of the local filmstars and have a decent team with former big team players like Edmilson and Javier. With former Durand Cup winner Churchill Brothers S.C. coach Carlos Roberto Pereira at the helm of things Southern Samity becameone of the favourites to qualify from the I-League 2nd Division. They will certainly be buoyed by their performance in IFA Shield where they became the first Indian team to reach semi-final on debut in 1975. [3]
History
In 1959 the club get their affiliation from the IFA. In there first year Southern Samity was declared champion in the Bengal Soccer League.
But the club got their footstep in football from the year 2007-2008 onwards, when Frontlink International took charge of the clubs Football department. In the year 2008-2009 they became the champions in the Calcutta Football League in the 2nd Division and were promoted in the First Division Calcutta Football League where famous and big clubs like Kingfisher East Bengal F.C., Mohun Bagan A.C., and Chirag United S.C. play.
